自製涼感去屑洗髮精 | DIY Salicylic Acid Scalp Cooling Shampoo for Dandruff

This is another shampoo tweaked from my beloved DIY Easy Silky Shampoo, which I’ve also used to make DIY Chinese Medicine Scalp Shampoo with Fo-ti Root. I tend to get light dandruff from season changes, stress, and sometimes irritations from hair dye or bleach. I usually use some type of mild exfoliating shampoo once a week to clear off the debris, followed with my DIY Cleansing Conditioner with Q10 for a mild cleanse and nourishment, then replenish with my DIY Scalp Balancing Serum after. Hence the creation of this salicylic acid shampoo.

Salicylic acid isn’t soluable in water, but with the amount that’s used in this DIY, a little glycerin, followed by warm water should do the trick. However, if you want to be extra diligent, you can swap the glycerin out for octyldodecanol. Although I do keep a small amount of octyldodecanol in my arsenal, I tend to only use it for making my own acid peel solution.

I like my hair products minty and cooling. I’ve also found that the addition of menthol crystals in my hair products a good stimulation of blood flow to the scalp, which promotes hair growth. The amount used in this recipe is not nearly as sensational as in my DIY Cleansing Conditioner with Q10, so you can definitely up it a notch if you enjoy the addition. I tend to be a little less lavishing with ingredients in my wash-off DIYs.

I’d crush up some menthol crystals in my essential oil of choice and let it sit aside to melt first. In a separate container I’d then mix the salicylic acid powder with glycerin into a slurry and set aside. In a third larger container, I’d mix up the surfactants and conditioning agents by hand to avoid extra foaming. SLES is not the easiest to incorporate and may require a little arm work. However, I tend not to be too fussy about it, as I’d let the finished product sit for overnight or a good 24 hours before use. Time will harmonize it.

I’d then add warm water to the salicylic acid slurry. Add the watered-down solution to the surfactant mix and stir till the consistency is somewhat homogenized. I’d then add my minty essential oil, followed by a broad spectrum preservatives of choice.

The hubby also uses this shampoo occassionally, and it helps with his scalp pimples which now very rarely flare up with stress and sleep deprivations. Though He can’t really tell the real differences between these three DIY shampoos.
